Why NaturaLux™

How Do Fluorescent Tube Covers Reduce Glare and Protect Against UV?

Glare at the Source

Reflects excess glare back into the tube rather than into the room. Eliminates the harsh brightness that causes eyestrain and headaches in offices, classrooms, workshops, and strip-lit spaces.

UV Blocked at the Tube

Blocks 100% of UVB and up to 98% UVA radiation directly at the fluorescent tube. Critical for people with lupus, photosensitivity, or UV-reactive skin conditions who work under exposed-tube strip lighting.

Full-Spectrum Color Correction

Corrects the yellow-green cast of fluorescent tubes. Objects appear clearer and more natural with full-spectrum light at CRI 88 to 95.3.

Fits T5, T8, and T12 Lamps

Slides directly over fluorescent or LED replacement lamps with no tools, no rewiring, and no electrician needed. Available in 4-foot lengths.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Fluorescent Tube Covers

What is a fluorescent tube cover?

A fluorescent tube cover (also called a tube sleeve or tube guard) slides directly over an individual fluorescent lamp. NaturaLux tube covers correct the harsh yellow-green fluorescent spectrum at the source, block 100% of UVB and up to 98% UVA radiation, and reduce 90% of glare without noticeably dimming the room. They work in strip lights, shop lights, and any suspended or exposed-lamp housing where the lamps are visible.

What is the difference between a fluorescent tube cover and a fluorescent light cover?

The easiest way to choose: look at how your fixture is mounted. If it is flush with the ceiling and has a removable diffuser or lens, the fluorescent light cover at /products/fluorescent-light-covers drops directly into the fixture opening — that is the right product. If the fixture is suspended from the ceiling on chains, brackets, or stems, the lamps are exposed and the tube cover slides directly over each lamp. Tube covers also work on wall-mounted strip lights and under-cabinet fixtures where the lamps are visible.

What size tube cover should I order?

NaturaLux tube covers come in 4-foot lengths for T5, T8, and T12 fluorescent tubes. The T8 is the most common size — about the diameter of a US quarter. The T12 is slightly larger (about the diameter of a half dollar) and common in older fixtures. The T5 is the smallest and used in newer, compact fixtures. If you are not sure, measure the diameter of your existing tube or check the label printed on the tube itself.

What sizes do NaturaLux tube covers come in?

NaturaLux tube covers are available in 4-foot lengths for T5, T8, and T12 fluorescent tubes — these cover the most common fluorescent lamp sizes used in offices, schools, and commercial buildings. All three widths are priced at $18.99.

Do tube covers block UV from fluorescent lights?

Yes. NaturaLux tube covers block 100% of UVB and up to 98% UVA radiation at the tube itself rather than at the fixture lens. This matters especially for exposed-tube fixtures where UV travels directly from the tube to the room. People with lupus, photosensitivity, and other UV-sensitive conditions report working full shifts under filtered tubes without UV-related symptoms.

Will fluorescent tube covers make my room darker?

NaturaLux tube covers maintain about 80% light transmission. The 20% reduction is excess glare, not usable light. Most people report rooms feel brighter and easier to work in after installing tube covers, because the harsh glare that was causing squinting and eye fatigue is gone.

Can I install fluorescent tube covers myself?

Yes. Remove the lamp from the fixture. Cap one end of the filter sleeve, slide the lamp into the sleeve from the open end, then cap the other end. Place the capped lamp back in the fixture and you are done. No tools, no rewiring, and no electrician required.

Do tube covers work with LED replacement tubes?

Yes. NaturaLux tube covers fit T8 and T12 LED replacement tubes the same way they fit fluorescent tubes. If you have retrofitted to LED replacement lamps that still use a tube socket, the glare reduction and UV blocking apply equally. For sealed LED ceiling fixtures (not tube-style), use our LED light covers at /products/led-light-covers instead.

Are NaturaLux tube covers safe for use in schools and healthcare settings?

Yes. NaturaLux tube covers are used in K-12 schools, universities, hospitals, and government facilities. The filter material is the same optical-grade modified impact acrylic used across all NaturaLux products, which have been in service in commercial and institutional settings for years. Contact us if your facility requires documentation for procurement.

What are fluorescent tube covers called?

They go by several names: tube covers, tube sleeves, tube guards, UV tube sleeves, and fluorescent bulb covers. All of these describe the same basic product: a filter that slides over an exposed fluorescent or LED replacement tube. NaturaLux tube covers are a light-correcting filter, not just a protective guard, which is why they reduce glare, block UV radiation, and correct the color spectrum rather than only shielding the tube.

Will fluorescent tubes be phased out soon, and should I still buy tube covers?

Certain T8 and T12 fluorescent lamp types are being phased out of new manufacturing in the US and EU through 2026 and 2027. However, existing fluorescent strip fixtures will stay in service for years. NaturaLux tube covers work equally on fluorescent tubes and on LED replacement tubes that use the same T8 or T12 base. You will not need to replace your tube covers when you eventually retrofit from fluorescent to LED replacement lamps.
