How Light Filters Work

Two formats, any ceiling fixture.

Overlay Panels

Lay directly on top of your existing 2x2 or 2x4 fixture diffuser — also called a diffuser cover. The patented micro-reflective polymer rebalances the light spectrum, cutting harsh blue-white edges and blocking UV before it reaches the room. Works with LED troffers and parabolic, prismatic, or flat-lens fluorescent panels.

Tube Sleeves

Slide directly over exposed fluorescent tubes when there is no diffuser to overlay. Same full-spectrum filtration, same UV blocking, sized for T5, T8, and T12 bulbs. Common in shop lighting, garage, warehouse, and older office retrofits.

NaturaLux™ filtration technology is protected by three U.S. patents (#4,989,953; #5,218,474; #6,019,476), developed by Kevin Kirschner, a certified ophthalmic specialist with over four decades in clinical vision care.

Fluorescent Light Filters vs. LED Light Filters

Make Great Light manufactures NaturaLux™ full-spectrum light filters — a category of light quality retrofit product that installs on existing fluorescent and LED ceiling fixtures without replacing the fixture or bulb. Unlike decorative covers that block 20–70% of room light, NaturaLux filters use a patented micro-reflective polymer to correct the light spectrum, raising the color rendering index from 88 to 95.3 while retaining 80% of visible light. The product line includes three types: overlay panels for fluorescent fixtures, overlay panels for LED troffers, and slide-on tube sleeves for exposed T5, T8, and T12 bulbs.

The two panel filter lines do the same thing (reduce glare, block UV, retain visible light), but they are tuned for different fixtures. Fluorescent light filters are designed for the older parabolic, prismatic, and flat-lens panels you find in classrooms, government buildings, and pre-2010 offices. LED light filters are tuned for modern LED troffers, the flat panels that have been replacing fluorescents in office retrofits over the past decade.

If your fixture has a removable diffuser and looks like a traditional ceiling tile, the Fluorescent Light Covers are the right pick. If your fixture is a flat, edge-lit LED panel that looks more like a screen than a tile, choose the LED Light Filters. For exposed bulbs with no diffuser at all, the Fluorescent Tube Covers slide on directly.

Built for the People
Working Under the Light

The reason 30,000+ spaces have installed NaturaLux™ is not aesthetic. It is the people working underneath who notice the difference: fewer fluorescent light headaches, less afternoon eye strain, less photophobia and visual stress, and for people with lupus and UV exposure concerns, real protection from a workplace lighting source most facilities never think to filter.

90%
Glare Reduction

Cuts the harsh overhead glare that drives headaches and eye strain.

100%
UVB Blocked

Plus up to 98% of UVA. Important for lupus, sensitive skin, and labs.

80%
Visible Light Retained

The room stays bright. You cut the harshness, not the light.

10+
Year Lifespan

Install once. Most filters outlast several rounds of bulb replacements.

A Filter Corrects the Light. A Cover Just Hides It.

Most decorative light covers block 20 to 70% of your room light to soften glare. NaturaLux takes a different approach: correct the spectrum, retain the brightness.

Classroom Lighting

Calmer, daylight-balanced light for K-12 and higher ed. Reduced glare and softer overhead light are what teachers notice first.

Light Filters FAQ

What's the difference between a light filter and a light cover?
In our catalog they are the same product: overlay panels (or slide-on tube sleeves) that sit on top of your existing fixture and rebalance the light. Other vendors sometimes use "cover" to mean a decorative printed panel that just dims the light. NaturaLux™ is a full-spectrum filter that reduces glare 90%, blocks 100% UVB, retains 80% of visible light, and raises the color rendering index from 88 to 95.3.
Do NaturaLux filters work with ceiling-mounted fixtures?
Yes. Standard ceiling-mounted 2x2 and 2x4 LED troffers and fluorescent fixtures are the most common install. The filter panel lays directly on top of the existing diffuser. For exposed bulb fixtures (T5, T8, T12), use the slide-on tube covers instead.
How much do NaturaLux light filters cost?
NaturaLux panel filters for standard 2×2 and 2×4 ceiling fixtures start at $37.99 per cover. Fluorescent tube sleeves start at $18.99 per tube. Bulk pricing is available for large orders — schools, offices, government agencies, and qualifying nonprofits can request a quote for volume pricing. Most quotes are returned within 2 hours during business hours.
Can light filters help reduce headaches from overhead lights?
Many of our customers buy NaturaLux™ specifically to reduce fluorescent light headaches. Filters cut overhead glare, block UV, and soften the high-frequency edge of fluorescent and LED light that some people are sensitive to.
Do you offer bulk pricing for offices and schools?
Yes. Request a quote with your fixture count and we will send tailored bulk pricing. Tax-exempt orders for schools, government, and qualifying nonprofits are welcome. We typically respond within 2 hours during business hours.
How do I know which filter fits my fixture?
Match by fixture type: LED troffer (panel) → LED Light Filters. Parabolic, prismatic, or flat-lens fluorescent (panel) → Fluorescent Light Covers. Exposed T5, T8, or T12 tubes → Fluorescent Tube Covers. If you are not sure, photograph the fixture and include the picture in your quote request.
Are NaturaLux light filters safe?
Yes. NaturaLux™ filters are passive optical panels with no electronics, no chemicals, and no ozone. They carry a Class A fire rating, meet school and healthcare facility safety standards, block 100% UVB and up to 98% UVA radiation — important for people with lupus, UV-sensitive skin conditions, and lab environments where UV affects specimens. The patented polymer material has a 10+ year lifespan and does not degrade or off-gas.
